This site is dedicated to integrating quality children's literature into primary classroom instruction based on the Florida Reading Associations Children's Book Award nominated and winning picture books. Workshops on each of the eight nominated books for 2007-2008 will be presented in Leon County throughout the year. Additional presentations will be conducted at the Florida Reading Association's Annual Conference, Bay County Reading Council's Language Arts Conference, and at the Seminole County Reading Council.
This website is designed to house the many materials and instructional references that are presented at each of the workshops. The site is organized by year and then book. You will also find a schedule of workshop times and locations under the calendar link.
If you have attended a Vote for Books workshop, you will be invited to share your experiences, lessons, and ideas on this wiki. All you will need is a password. This group of attendees is known as "The Friends of Vote for Books". This group will receive regular e-mails on up coming events. Vote for Books workshops provide teachers with lesson plans and activities to integrate the Florida Reading Association’s Children’s Book Award eight nominated books. Lessons and activities will focus on utilizing picture books within your 90 minute reading block and implementing literacy centers that cover the five essential elements of reading. These sessions provide fun, hands on experiences for teachers and their students. You will also enjoy refreshments and door prizes!
